GCSE Grade requirements: Grade 4 in English Literature/Language or Grade 4 if you studied GCSE Dance.

Course Content

Component 1: Performance and choreography = Practical exam = 50% of A Level
1. Solo performance linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study
2. Performance in a quartet
3. Group choreography

Component 2: Critical engagement = Written exam = 2 hours 30 minutes = 50% of A Level
1. Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of two set works
2. One compulsory set work within a compulsory area of study
3. One option set work with the corresponding area of study from a choice of four

Course Opportunities/ Activities

Throughout the 2-year course, Dance students will have the opportunity to connect with professional artists and choreographers. Students will participate in theatre visits and workshops with a variety of dance companies and will have opportunities to develop their performance skills.

Support and Challenge

All dance students are given topic booklets, past papers and access to an online textbook. Additional revision and examination activities are provided throughout the course as well as revision, extra component 1 sessions and one-to-one support. Dance students will learn their solo performance and quartet in year 12 leaving year 13 to focus on the group choreography. Students will be expected to practise their group choreography during free periods, lunchtimes and after school.
