Slovenian visit October 2012
In October, 32 students visited Broughton Hall Sixth Form, 27 girls and 5 boys aged between 18 and 21. They engaged in sixth form lessons and sixth form students gave them a welcome presentation on what it is like to be a student in the English Education System as well as some interesting information about career routes and options after sixth form. The students took part in a range of lessons and also toured the school including the Convent.

The students were from a school in Slovenia, called Ledina. The Broughton Hall students partnered up with them and forged lovely friendships. Some have kept in touch on Facebook and want to go to Slovenia as part of an exchange programme which we hope to establish in the near future.

Sixth Form Students are invited to a debate with the National Fellowship of Head Teachers
In March, the Head Teacher, Mr Murphy was invited to London for the National College Fellowship programme for leading National Head Teachers.

The Head Girl, Hannah Spencer and the Deputy Head Girl, Sophie Russell were asked to present to the panel of Head Teachers. Both students were active student governors of the Broughton Hall Governing Body. They promoted the benefits of students as governors of schools and drew upon their experiences during the presentation. The response from the panel was excellent. Following the debate, the students and staff stayed overnight and this allowed the students an opportunity to visit some of London’s tourist attractions.

Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Expedition
In June, 18 Year 12 students spent the weekend in North Yorkshire on their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Practice Expedition with Ms Park and Mrs Lodge. The weather was horrendous and we were unable to camp due to health and safety reasons, so we spent the weekend in a disused classroom.

The students then completed their 4 day qualifying expedition in July with Ms Park and Ms Creegan. Fortunately, the weather was much better although some of the students found the expedition quite gruelling. We are really proud that the students stuck with it and successfully completed the challenge.
