Introduction to the Review Process

We are all learners, every single day of our lives. Yet it’s often surprising how little we know about ourselves as learners and how we can best achieve our full potential!
How often have you or your child asked:

and what sort of answers have come back?

What sort of things help to make for good learning? One example might be being in school and attending lessons unless you’re really unwell.

But what other learning habits could help your child achieve her potential?

How much your daughter achieves by the end of this school year will have less to do with raw intelligence than the ability to understand herself as a learner and the willingness to develop positive learning habits.

So that’s why reporting and review day has changed!

Changes to Reporting and Review Day
Every pupil (and their parents) will now have the chance to formally sit down with their tutor once a year and review their progress.

As part of the preparation for Review day, pupils will be asked to carry out a short self assessment. This will help them think about what’s going well and to identify areas which might be improved on.

Her teachers will be asked to assess her learning habits on a scale of 1-4 and whether they think she is currently working about target (T+), on target (T) or below target (T-) in each subject.

The areas that progress will be assessed against include:
   attitude to learning
   preparation for learning
   concentration and completion
   home learning (homework)
   working with others
   next steps

At the review meeting, you will have a chance to discuss other areas which may be affecting progress, e.g., attendance or coursework, and your daughter will be expected with your help to set 2-3 learning targets to work towards. These targets may be general in nature or subject specific.

Sounds daunting? Don’t worry, remember, staff and teachers are here to help her achieve these targets in the coming months.

Follow up work will take place in PSHE and developments/progress since Review Day will be reported on in the Full Report later in the year.
