Can Cook, Will Cook! A group of Year 11 and Sixth form pupils from Broughton Hall are taking part in the ‘Can Cook Winners 2010’ competition which will be contested by sixteen schools from the city. The session offers a cookery and food skills training programme embedded in the format of a knockout competition.
The programme runs in the following stages.
1. Each team have a three hour introductory training session.
2. Expectations on the school sessions are very high. The pupils have to achieve a particularly high standard of finish on the dishes, including starters, mains and desserts in a relatively short period of time.
3. Working on a 1:11 ratio across the competition with experienced chefs, the programme engages students by teaching them the benefits of preparing and enjoying food.
4. The programme motivates and inspires the teams allowing them to progress quickly and gain skills with confidence.
5. Each round of the competition is judged by an independent panel comprising of chefs and food related professionals
The overall winning school will cook a three course Gala meal at the Bluecoat restaurant with 140 special guests, the guest list will include parents, teachers and national partners.
