Calderstones Tennis Trip
On Friday 19th June 2009, 30 pupils from years 7, 8, & 9, went to watch professionals play tennis at a very high standard. We all came to school in our own clothes and waited in the gym until everyone was ready to leave. The teachers that took us were Miss Park, Ms Crummy and Mrs Bradley. Everyone was really excited and couldn’t wait to get there.

We arrived at about half 10. As soon as we arrived we were given a red wrist band to wear, which meant that we could go into the stands and watch the tennis when ever we wanted to. The first match we watched was against Neal Skupski [GBR] who beat Frederik Sletting –Johnson [NOR] 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. The second match we watched was against Michelle Larcher – De Brito [PUR] who beat Ajla Tomljanorvic [COR] 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. The last match was against Mardy Fish [USA] who beat Simon Roberts 7-6, 3-6, 11-9. At lunch time we all sat on the grass and once everyone had finished we went to the shop. The shop sold bracelets, necklaces and other kinds of accessories, also the shop sold sports wear and sports equipment which was good.

Everybody really enjoyed the day. We got a really good understanding on how tennis is played at a higher standard and the different techniques that are used in a tennis match. I would definitely go again and I would recommend for people to go next year if they have never been before. It was a really good day.
