What is the vision of the school council?
To make Broughton Hall a better place

To give every pupil a ‘voice'

To encourage every girl to be an active and responsible citizen 
What can the school council do?
Discuss issues that are important to the girls within the school

Discuss
and agree activities the students want to get involved in

Ask girls within the school for suggestions and discuss within school council
Where and when do school council meetings run?
Once per month in the Conference Room or Learning Hub depending on availability.
What format do all meetings follow?
Form representatives ask form colleagues for items for the agenda

Agenda items given to Secretary

Agenda followed

Regular items covered, eg apologies, AOB.
What is the structure of Broughton Hall school council?
There are 38 girls in school council, one School Council Representative from each form throughout the years 7-10 and 2 representatives from year 11.

There are a further 23 vice representatives across the years to cover in Representatives absences.

Year 12 will send a number of representatives to meetings.

Carolyn Dowling and Sarah Taylor, Year Support Managers attend the School Council meetings as staff representatives and co-ordinators.

Mr Murphy or Mrs Grant may attend as Head Teacher or Deputy Head.
What roles and Responsibilities are found in the school council?

Chair Girls
Ensure all students get a chance to put their issues, concerns, ideas forward. Will meet with Carolyn and Sarah regularly to discuss items.

School council representatives
Will obtain issues, concerns, ideas from members of their form and feed back to school council. Will also feed back items discussed on agenda

Treasurers
Will keep track of all money raised and spent

Notice board monitors
Will ensure notice board is up to date, informative, attractive and tidy.

Minute taker
Will ensure all notes of meetings are taken and typed up accordingly and distributed with the support of Secretary.

Secretary
Will liaise closely with minute taker to ensure information is distributed. Will inform school council representatives when meetings are to take place and request items for agenda. Will be responsible for drawing up and agenda with advice and guidance from Carolyn or Sarah. Keep an eye on clock to let members know when meeting should end.
What Expectations are there when you join school council?
We expect School Council Form Representatives to gather items for agendas and to feed back on what has been discussed in meetings

We expect School Council Form Representatives to listen to suggestions from their class members, we also expect class members to take on board information, suggestions passed onto them from meetings.

We expect Chair persons to meet with Carolyn and Sarah on a regular basis.

We expect members to feed back in Assemblies on occasions.
How are form captains chosen?
A vote is carried out by class members in order to nominate School Council Form Representatives.
What has Broughton Hall School Council achieved?
School Council has been involved in a change to the school PE Kit. 2008

School Council has been involved in a change to the school uniform. 2009

School Council has been involved in the Ecology Project which looked at ways of protecting the wildlife around the school premises whilst the new building project goes on. 2009

School Council has been involved in ‘The Big Tidy Up'. A clean up operation carried out in the community around the school. 2009

School council has discussed the following issues:-

Canteen/Food (met with John the cook)
Toilet and Cloak Rooms
Issues with public transport
Dropping off outside school entrances
Resource Areas
