School Curriculum

Our school aims to promote the overall development of each individual and to prepare each child for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.  The school provides a curriculum which is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated.

In Years 7 – 9 (Key Stage 3), pupils study:

Religious Education English
Mathematics Science
Art Geography
Modern Foreign Language
History
Information and Communication Technology
Music
Physical Education & Games
Technology
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

A second modern language is available in Year 8 for those pupils who display a particular aptitude.

During Year 9, pupils are able to choose option subjects to study in Years 10 and 11. Click on Options to find out more about Key Stage 4, GCSEs and Vocational courses.

A wide range of Post-16 courses including A-Level, AVCE and GNVQ is offered in Years 12 and 13. Click on Sixth Form Prospectus to learn more.

When girls arrive at Broughton Hall, they will enter one of seven mixed ability forms.  The forms are grouped into 2 bands for organisational purposes only, “B” Band for Broughton and “H” Band for Hall.  Both bands are of equal ability.

During the year, pupils are placed in ability groups for English, Mathematics, Science, Languages, History and Geography.  We try very hard to place each girl where she will achieve her potential, therefore pupils will be set by ability in Year 8.  Girls may then find themselves in a variety of different sets according to their needs and abilities.

You can also read about the curriculum taught in each year group by visiting the appropriate Year Group Guide.
